Hello, I own a chromatic accordion and live in an apartment, so I’d like to buy a Roland digital accordion. This would allow me to play for longer periods at certain times of the day without disturbing my neighbors. Even though the playing styles are different, is it possible to practice on both without too much difficulty? I’d use the digital model solely to practice quietly without disturbing those around me, and then switch back to the chromatic accordion afterward. Thank you for your advice.

The FRX 1 80 with 80 bass notes in memory is lightweight at about 6 kg. I’ve seen and heard it played—it sounds great—and it has a USB port for backing tracks, etc.
Next is the FRX 3, which also has a USB port, 120 bass notes, and the option for chromatic bass notes, a left-hand drum, etc., weighing around 8 kg. It’s quite different from an acoustic accordion—the feel and control of the bellows are different, although you can adjust them. I’m no expert on these accordions—I’ve only seen and tested them for a few hours. The advantage is the wide range of sound options—musette, swing, violin, trumpet, etc.—you’re spoiled for choice. Built-in speakers with volume control, a built-in 10-battery pack and AC adapter, MIDI, the option to use headphones to play without disturbing the neighbors (very useful for apartment dwellers like me), etc. There are enthusiasts who wouldn’t trade it for anything, as well as those who are undecided and those who are against it. As an intermediate instrument for playing at any time of day or night—and then switching back to your acoustic—it’s the best; no time wasted. Plus, since it’s lightweight, it helps with back problems (like mine)—lower back pain, sciatica, etc.But as long as I can also play my FRATELLI CROSIO 96 Bass—8.5 kg, 5 MD registers, and 2 MG—I’ll keep doing so. It takes time, but you have to try it out and see what works best for your needs and budget; in any case, it’s the cheapest digital bass out there. I’m neither an expert nor a pro—the choice is yours. Musically

I have a cavagnolo digit air pro, so it's completely programmable to your liking, with an ipad tablet and the digit air application included in the price you should call cavagnolo and ask for Matthieu chaussalet.

In this video, this Youtuber compares the difference in sound between 5 accordions, from the cheapest to the most expensive.

50 - Bayan "Tembr" (00:00)
700$ - "Roal Standart" button accordion (00:47)
2700$ - "Pigini" button accordion (01:33)
4000$ - "Ukraine" button accordion (similar to "Jupiter") (02:26)
7000$ - Roland FR-8XB digital accordion (03:37)

Can you hear the difference? Which one is your favorite?

Can you tell me the value of acoustic accordions with sound cutter and digital conversion with the LIMEX system? I'm interested in having an accordion that can do both, but I'd like to hear the opinion of people who are familiar with this type of instrument.
Thank you for your input.

Hi, that's great! The advantage of midi is that the accompaniment is automatic, you just press the chord and the rest happens by itself! Better than digital accordions! Sincerely

Hello,

I have a Cavagnolo LB12 Odyssey Orchestra 3 model 2008 non pro that is to say non customizable, it has the 20 rhythmic paterns + 20 original stereo sequences. There are also all the sequence packs, i.e. 80 more.
The only problem on these Odyssey models especially the Odyssey 1 are the contacts, mine was completely overhauled in 2013, battery (beware it is soldered), Replacement of contact bars and all contacts right hand, ditto left hand, new cord etc... cost 610 Euros. No problem for 9 years.
It is possible to replace them with "hall effect sensors".

Retrofit currently proposed:
UPDATE ODYSSEY "RETROFIT REVELATION MD" *
- Replacement of the right hand contacts only, by non-contact contacts in the REVELATION MD version (NON-dynamic touch retained).
- Review of digital records.
- Revision of the original cards and replacement of the elements considered at risk.
- Replacing the back-up battery ( only if < 50% ecology obliges... )
- As part of our partnership, this service can also be provided by HEXAGONE international.
Recommended retail price: 890 Euros

You can find all possible udpates here: https://daurelle.com/odyssee3.html

I am very happy with it after all these years, just take care of it.
The new Digit is much more elaborate but the price is related, one day maybe....

Sincerely

Hello pinpin,

The Cavagnolo LB9 LB12 are accordions without "mechanical" acoustics, everything is managed by an electronic card, i.e. magnetic contact button or the new hall effect sensor system (magnetic).
If you have a fully acoustic instrument you can also "midify" it:

Hello to all of you,
I just bought a Mengascini digital accordion equipped with a MUSITECH Simply Midi Bass system. I had no problem for the right hand. However, for the programming of the left hand, it is more complicated and the A4 sheet provided by the manufacturer as an instruction manual is far too summary.if someone among you could tell me where I can find a more extensive manual or tell me how to proceed for the programming of bass and chords left hand, I would be very grateful.thank you in advance for taking the time to read my request.Sincerely and musically yours.JJMAU

Hello, I take advantage of this first message for me on this forum to thank the creators and contributors of this site, you helped me to get back actively to my Cavagnolo after 20 years of stop! Anyway, I'm looking at what is being done with accordions, and I discover that there are now digital accordions! After some research, I still don't know what to think about it. Could some users please enlighten me? Advantages, disadvantages etc? Which brands are known for their reliability? Also, if someone in the 37 or 79 region has a digital accordion and is willing to let me try it, I'm interested! In advance, thank you for your answers. Séverine

Hello Séverine, For me personally, it's Bignou, who I salute by the way, who confirmed me in my idea of buying a digital. It's true that it's very motivating when you discover all these sounds and what motivates also are the prices - much cheaper than the acoustic ones-. Here are 2 links on forums debating on the 2 main brands. You will already make a good opinion.http://accordeon-roland.superforum.fr/forum http://www.cavadigit.com/portal.php Good discovery. Daniel

Hello Séverine and welcome to the site, For my part, I now have a digital (Roland fr.3 sb). It's totally different from the acoustic one, if you are a purist, a wooden accordion remains an accordion, at the beginning I was disappointed by my choice. Now, a digital accordion allows you to obtain a multitude of sounds (coupled with an expander, you can play all instruments) It also allows to have a much more complete accompaniment (drums, orchestral sounds etc...) and allows to leave the "musette" repertoire often asked to accordionists. Playing Brassens on the guitar, Apache on the electric guitar or Petite fleur on the clarinet, all accompanied by an orchestra, virtual chord, does not make the same thing as the acoustic accordion alone, not to mention the recent music that sometimes have difficulty to pass with a traditional. It is also a little more complicated when you move, there is more material, it is not enough to open the case and to put the apparatus, it is necessary to connect the material and to make the adjustments but in my opinion it is worth it.It is also worthwhile to look a little at the terms of the digital music, there is a lot of thing to discover (maybe a little too much for my taste, but that commits only me...). It seems to me that your approach is the right one: find an accordionist who can make you try a digital one (or simply go to a store) before taking your decision. Good luck in your research and keep us informed of your choice. Best regards Daniel.

Thank you all for your responses and links! I have to say that the videos blew my mind! I think I'll keep on digging for a digital accordion, a Roland FR1 maybe, because on the budget side, it would cost me about the same if I had my current acoustic Cavagnolo serviced/repaired! Hello Séverine and to all, Well, I have a white FR3 SB, very light, with real accordion straps, (SB: that is to say amplified, therefore autonomous, which I advise...), of the first generation, which I am particularly satisfied with from the point of view of use; of course the MD keyboard does not give the same sensations as an accoustic and the bellows is a little harder, but adjustable, (perhaps that the new models are softer) But then, what a joy to be able to work with headphones until the end of the day without disturbing the neighbors, to be able to play several styles of accordions or instruments, and on stage with a wireless transmitter plus the 2700 ma batteries, you can play for about 2 hours and 30 minutes (and it only takes 10 seconds to replace the battery pack and it's back for another 2 hours and 30 minutes), no strings attached, it's great. For the coffee, I did not find ... Obviously, it is ''all plastic'', no pearly buttons, glitter, nor of course ''tree wood''. The purists cry scandal when we talk about Roland, but as Bignou says, you just have to see and especially listen to the videos (among others) of: Uwe Steger:
Cathy Travers:
Ludovic Beyer:
But, another very important advantage in my eyes: no blades, so always in tune, (if it plays wrong, it's the fault of the instrumentalist). And I will forget the price too. So, here is my point of view. However, if I had the means, I would buy a very nice acoustic, but keeping my FR 3. Here, here... Come on Séverine, it's up to you now. Musically. Glop03

It is a "friendly" fight between Bonifassi, Cavagnolo, and Roland. I have a Roland FR3 X, a 120 bass with a very good possibilities/price ratio (2500 euros new in December 2010). I am very happy with it. I attended, at the last music fair, the Cavagnolo and Bonifassi demonstrations. It is certain that they offer greater possibilities, even better sounds. On the other hand the prices are much higher. The Roland is perfect for me who is taking up the accordion again after 30 years of interruption. If, on the other hand, I were to perform in public, alone or with a small group, I would opt for one of the 2 other brands. I am happy with my FR3x but I will not hesitate to change it if a good offer was proposed to me. See you soon and enjoy the music.

"It's a friendly fight" (it reminds me of something!). ) The all digital has evolved a lot, and on the market the arrival of the last one (bonifaci) will still shake the place, personally I also play on accoustic and frankly it is not the same, what reproaches to ROLLAND it is precisely its "touch" rather keyboard synth than accordion.is not the same, what I reproach to ROLLAND is precisely its "touch" rather keyboard synth than accordion and I really have difficulty to play at ease, I think I think that the VIVO system must be much closer to the accoustic from the point of view of sensations under the fingers, if there is a user of this modelIf there is a user of this model I would like to know his opinion, as for the budget obviously between ROLLAND and CAVA there is a gap that can make more than one think.Anyway, everyone has to enjoy themselves with what they have, Sincerely Djipy

Ciao Djipy, I have a Cruccianelli accoustic and, at my modest level, I go from one to the other, without any problem. It is true that the Roland touch, ultra sensitive, does not forgive the smallest deviation. When I have money, I will try the others. If "friendly wrestling" reminds you of something, it's really involuntary, especially if it's a final. Good afternoon. Dan

Thank you Tenente Dan for your comment. I'm replying to you on the forum, so that everyone can benefit from my answer. In no case, personally I will not make a fight even friendly with Roland and Cavagnolo, because I respect these 2 brands. Less than a year and a half ago I bought the FR3 XB, I sold it within 3 months. As a professional, this accordion did not correspond to my expectations, of course this is only my opinion. I had the impression to make love with an inflatable doll, as beautiful as it is. But you, after 30 years of interruption, made the right choice. I would have done the same thing as you did, considering the price and the possibilities. I had the opportunity to try the Cava Digit with Jean-Louis Noton, whom I salute by the way, and I can say that it is a good machine, I was going to take the plunge despite the price. Unlike the Roland, the Cava and the VIVO Bonifassi have a real acoustic accordion touch. And then came my meeting with Mr. Bonifassi, the test of the VIVO, and there I am convinced. When Mr. Bonifassi offered me the position of Demonstrator, I immediately accepted the proposal because the VIVO had really caught my eye after a test on 15 galas. What I liked most, the weight 5,9 Kgs, the sounds, a wooden accordion, a real touch of accoustic, a HF Audio & midi integrated, 100% Italian construction, 20 H of autonomy and the price! The plain black model, 4 rows 96 basses, 4990 €, case and straps offered, as well as one hour of training offered. 2 years warranty. I feel good with the VIVO and I have only pleasure to demonstrate it, if it was the opposite I would have refused the job. So no fighting, even friendly, on the contrary you have the chance to compare 3 products and as the customer is king, and you have a good ear, you will also listen to the wallet and especially how you feel with the instrument, it is the most important! Remaining at your disposal for further information, I remain at your disposal, even for a test and a demonstration. Like that it is you who will judge. Sincerely and musically Dan PLUCHARD

Hello to all I'm glad to see that there are comments. But don't forget one thing you have to approach acoustic and digital as 2 different instruments. It's all in the bellows, no need to pull hard on the digital, when you are at one with the expression it is only happiness and the less you pull the less it is heavy! I take the liberty of joining the conversation, because I have had the opportunity to see and listen to this accordion and believe me, even if we do not know too much to date the BONIFASSI brand I can tell you that it is a brand that will hurt in terms of accordion.is a brand that will hurt in terms of accordion the characteristics of this jewel, have all to compete and then devalue the brands cited in your comments, it is obvious that the acoustic will always remain the acoustic, but the possibilities that offers theacoustic, but the possibilities that a digital offers while having seen the BONIFASSI at work gives desire to cross the step acoustic / digital, because more problems with the repisse in a sound system, it is a pleasure to sound without constraint the touch and almost identical to an acoustic and the possibility of having thousands of registers and sounds at hand, make that the digital remains an asset for an accordionist and for all instruments it is the same:) for the small anecdote I am a drummer and I knew these polemics Acoustic and Digital :))) and I can tell you that at a certain time I rushed on the digital in 1984 purchase of the revolution in the drums the SIMMONS SDS V then in 1986 the exit of the D DRUMS with 320 points of dynamics to nuance its play instead of 127 points that deI immediately bought the DDRUMS at the price of 32000,00 Fr because I knew that it would give me a plus for my job even if my drummer buddies were reluctant to use this kind of instrument. the future gave me reason for this purchase, because I do not tell you the sound engineers as they were happy to sound me :)) no more microphones that mess up, a great sound of drums with the acoustic touch allowing to make groove and inflections as well as on an acoustic. to summarize I can tell you that if I were an accordionist nowadays, I would immediately go for a digital product, privileging the sound, the convenience, the precision, the comfort, the possibilities that the midi offers and also without forgetting the weight gentlemen:))) very important this criterion and then frankly, 32000,00 Fr the DDRUM in 1986 we are far from 5000,00 euros nowadays :)) then seen what I saw of the product BONIFASSI do not hesitate gentlemen you can go head down I took pleasure to give you my opinion of drummer :))) good road to you all Jean-Charles
