Started taking accordion lessons at age 8 inspired by father who did not have the opportunity to take lessons/learn to read music. Started performing at age 10 as father and son accordion duet. That same year The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in the U.S. and five years later Woodstock (NY) music festival happened. No accordion appeared on either stage, while Myron Floren (a fantastic player) on the Lawrence Welk Show pigeon-holed the accordion as playing mostly accordion-classical type songs like Lady of Spain. The Cordovox, an electric accordion based on the Lowry Organ from Chicago made it's appearance in the mid to late 1960's and finally, MIDI was introduced in 1986 resulting in the accordion undergoing a resurgence in recent years.
Now retired from my day job, I try to take every opportunity to incorporate technology and music. I still perform once a week and at an occasional private events. I still wear my dad's (passed in 2011) accordion shoulder straps so he's still with me whenever I play.
